LAND OF THE FREE

Exhibition runs from September 1st-September 31st, 2016
L’Atelier Berkshires Art Gallery proudly presents:
LAND OF THE FREE, paintings by New York City artist Marshall Jones. Jones’ most series explores the role of imagery in the collective unconscious. His work tells stories based on our shared understanding of iconic imagery. Jones’ paintings challenge our understanding of how these archetypal modern day images shape our world, craft our desires, needs and prejudices. These narratives inspire us question our own views and our contemporary American identity.

Art Reception Sunday, June 26th, 6-8pm–L’Atelier Berkshires Art Gallery proudly presents “Ratajkowski Revealed” by renowned California painter John David Ratajkowski. Exhibition runs June 14th- June 30th, 2016. Artist will be present at the reception and there will be live classical guitar by local musician Mark Dufault.
John David Ratajkowski’s abstract pieces feature brilliant color and form—large and small canvases initially stun with their vibrancy and then draw the viewer in for the story the paintings tell. Ratajkowski has many stories to share: from his experiences painting in Ireland and Spain, to paintings riffing on ancient texts. Ratajkowski is an accomplished painter having exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Poland, Ireland and Bulgaria. This summer his exhibition, “Los San Patricios- The Story of the Mexican and Irish Alliance” is at the Embassy of Mexico in Dublin, Ireland. He is the recipient of many awards, most notably the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Council for the Humanities, Artist-in-Residence in Torun, Poland and Sofia, Bulgaria. Critic Aidan Dunne, from the Irish Times, has praised Ratajkowski for “the open, expansive rural flavor of his brilliantly colored abstracts which suggest close affinities with the landscape, aiming for a sense of unity and harmony.”
L’Atelier Berkshires Art Gallery presents Berkshire artist Kiki Dufault. Dufault explores an evolution of time through her actions of pouring, scraping, expansion, and shifting of color in creating her oil paintings. Intrigued by the figure and the landscape, they emerge through her dynamic process. Her paintings have a mesmerizing presence with the rare capacity to deepen our sense of reality. Art party on May 27th 6-8pm with live music by local guitarist Patrick John Tool.
Currently Kiki Dufault’s works investigate the environment and threats to water, our earth’s life blood. The Housatonic River is one of the precious waterways, she is concerned with protecting. Dufault comes from a family deeply involved in the arts and environmental conscientiousness here in the Berkshires. Her great Aunt and Uncle were the original owners of Aston Magna, now a cultural center for music, hidden up on a hill in Great Barrington. Her Grandfather, American Poet Peter Kane Dufault, was an environmental activist. Through her paintings she continues the voice reminding us of the splendor and fragility of our world. She is following in the footsteps of the cultural and nature conservation awareness that is a tradition in her family. She is an accomplished musician as well as an exquisite painter.
Exhibiting artists: John Ratajkowski, Kiki Dufault, Sarah Logan, Eva Connell and Natalie Tyler & designers Mick Galvin and Anthony Bianco.
